Long pepper is a spice cultivated mainly in Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Malaysia, Java and China. On the market only infructescence of Piper retrofractum are available. Other species are: -Indian long pepper (Piper longum), cultivated in Bengal, Assam, northern India and Kerala. It is 1-2,5 cm long. Fresh has sichan-pepper-like aroma, but dried has spicy and sweet. -North-Eastern Indian Long pepper (Piper peepuloides) they are mixed with above species -East Africa long pepper (Piper capense), cultivated in Ethiopia. It has 2-8 cm lenght. Exported from this country from 2008.
